Words by Jesse Mosher from May 16, 2006

this is the introduction to my art:
elbow deep in paint
stanzas on standby
food stamps/ famous
so I see my art as an alternate cultural history,
a language broader and less defined than my contemporaries,
the plain ballad of the american spirit.
The main influence on my work is poverty.
It chooses my materials, defines the orbits of my travels and influences.
born of frustration and the days inbetween.
running brushes over faces forgotten
tracing the rootsto places and words unspoken.
my heroes, cast and crowned on these streets
remembered in studio nights drying towards dawn.
I've dealt 12,607 pieces in the last 7 1/2 years,
could be a record-but like the best stories,
often between the cracks hidden.
my vision lies in the shrinking distance
between past and present
paint and poetry-
and the distinction between
art and artist-
beat
